3 Reasons Why Your Blog Is Not Growing

Have you ever had one of those moments where you almost feel like your watching yourself from the outside?

I did.

I remember the day vividly.

I was sitting at my computer working on my blog when I started to get frustrated with how slow it was growing.

Need help growing your blog? Turning your blog into a profitable business isn’t hard. Check out these 3 reasons why your blog isn’t growing and how you are holding yourself back.

Naturally, I turned to Pinterest to see what new tactics I could find to increase my traffic and income.

This is when I went down a rabbit-hole of posts from bloggers who were sharing their monthly income reports.

I was shocked when I saw how fast their blogs had grown.

My first thought was: We started at the same time… what am I doing wrong?

My second thought was: This sucks. I knew this wouldn’t work for me.

This is when I felt like I was watching myself from the outside.

I immediately closed out of all the tabs on my computer and sat there staring at the blank screen.

I didn’t want my thoughts to take a bad turn, so I started asking myself different questions.

Instead of saying: What am I doing wrong? I started to ask myself What can I do differently?

Instead of saying: I knew this wouldn’t work for me. I said: How can I make this work for me?

Doing this instantly changed my mindset and I started to solve my own problems I was experiencing with my blog.

Guess what was the root of it all…. ME.

I was holding myself back.

I was the reason why my blog wasn’t growing.

As much as I wanted to make up a million different excuses about why my blog wasn’t where I wanted it to be, the sole reason was because of me.

If you are feeling this way, don’t give up.

Blogging isn’t a race or a competition.

You can start to make changes now.

Today, I want to share with you 3 reasons why your blog is not growing and how you can make changes in the right direction.

3 Reasons Why Your Blog Is Not Growing

#1 - YOU NEED TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING

If you are like me then you started your blog on a whim with no real plans or ideas for what you wanted to accomplish.

It sounded fun so you just jumped right in.

Most bloggers start without an end goal or result they are trying to achieve.

There isn’t anything wrong with that, but at some point, you have to start setting goals and knowing where you are headed with your blog.

If you don’t know where you want to go, how will you ever get there?

Most of us just expect our blogs to grow.

We write a valuable piece of content, post it on our social media accounts and then wait for our customers or clients to just come rolling in.

I’m sure you know by now that doing this doesn’t work (otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this post).

Having goals or a destination that you are working towards gives you a purpose.

When you have a clear result you want to achieve you can easily create an action plan with small doable steps to make it happen.

Otherwise, you are just wasting time each day thinking about what you should be working on.

You know all of those days where you feel like giving up or you think to yourself, “why am I even doing this?”

Your goal, your dreams, your big vision you have for your blog are the reasons why you keep pushing through.

But, you need to know what that goal is.

It might be scary for you to even think about big goals especially if you’ve never created one before.

Here are a few questions to get you started:

  • What do you want to accomplish in the next 90 days?

  • Where do you see yourself in 1 year?

  • What kind of impact do you want to make?

Write out a clear outcome goal and post it in your office or on your computer. Someplace you can see it every day.

Seeing it in front of you will be a constant reminder of what you want to achieve and allow you to stay focused on what needs to be done to make it happen.

#2 - YOU’RE WAITING FOR THE PERFECT [INSERT EXCUSE HERE]

It’s hard not comparing our blogs and businesses to those that we see online. It always feels like everyone has it all together.

So, what do we do?

We keeping waiting and telling ourselves these ridiculous excuses like:

I’ll start once I have the perfect logo.

I’ll start once I learn how to do X.

I’ll start whenever I can write the perfect post.

I’ll start next week when I’m not as busy.

I’ll start once I hire a web designer.

I’ll start once I have more followers.

I’ll start after I get my hair colored.

If your days are full of reasons or excuses for not starting or growing your blog now is the time for this to stop.

Trust me when I say, done is better than perfect.

These excuses held me back for a really long time and I don’t want the same to happen to you.

Whether you are waiting to launch your blog or waiting to share a video I want you to take action today.

Whatever the task might be, take that step right now.

Do not let all of these excuses hold you back from growing your blog into a profitable business.

Each day should be full of taking the next best step to achieve your goal.

You won’t go from zero to a hundred overnight, but you can start building momentum and heading in the right direction.

But, to do that, you have to stop letting your excuses hold you back.

#3 - YOU’RE CHASING THE NEXT BEST THING

As bloggers and online entrepreneurs, we are constantly bombarded with the next best thing.

Whether it is a strategy, course, coach, software or even an online tool we are always being distracted by something new.

When you get caught up chasing the next best thing, you don’t have the time to actually make progress or grow your own blog. You waste hours upon hours learning and then never taking action.

I like to call this shiny object syndrome.

All of those things *might* help you grow your blog, but when you are always looking for what is next you are losing out on valuable time to be working on your own blog.

There isn’t a magic pill or a way to have overnight success.

You have to believe in yourself and stop looking for the next shiny object.

When you know what your goal is, all of your time and energy can go towards what needs to happen to achieve that goal.

Everything else becomes irrelevant

I’m not telling you to never invest in your blog or education, but when you are about to purchase a new course or software, take a minute to consider if it will help you to achieve your goals.

When you make the time to focus on what is important and take action on the steps to achieve your goals, your blog will grow exponentially.
